Collection of neurological tissue

Neurological diseases include those that affect the central nervous system (brain and spinal cord) and the peripheral nervous system (muscles and nerves).

Having muscle tissue affected by neuromuscular diseases as well as quality post-mortem brain tissue will allow us to advance in the knowledge of neurological diseases, to know the consequence of the disease and to check the specific response to possible personalized treatments. This collection has different types of samples.

Developmental cancer collection

It aims to get matched tumour and non-tumour samples so that childhood cancer researchers develop new innovative and translational strategies that will help improve the therapies for pediatric solid tumours.

Collection of pathological anatomy (surplus of the assistance process)

This collection aims to leverage surplus samples of paraffin and frozen tissue from biopsies and autopsies for diagnosis. These surplus specimens are part of the Pathological Anatomy Service care sample archive and are bi-financed if requested for research projects and after complying with the current ethical and legal requirements.

Collection of Hematology

The Biobank Hematology Collection at the SJD Barcelona Children’s Hospital collects biological samples from pediatric patients with all types of hematological diseases, with the aim of ensuring the viability of research projects and encouraging collaboration Collaboration between research centers. Our collection mainly includes samples from patients with acute leukemia, but also rare pathologies such as spinal cord failure syndrome or non-oncological pathologies such as anemia or thrombopenia.

Collection of Controls

The Collection of Controls is an initiative of the Biobank to assist researchers in all lines of research, by providing samples of different tissues and biological fluids of boys and girls of different ages without evidence of diseases relevant to their projects. research from banal interventions or surplus care processes. The HISJDI Biobank has solid and liquid samples stored with the highest quality guarantees. Control samples are anonymized, in compliance with data protection law. These samples are an essential element to guarantee the quality of the results and the validity of the conclusions reached in research..

Collection of childhood endocrine diseases

This collection aims to collect samples for studies in metabolic endocrinology including insulin resistance, obesity, metabolic syndrome and diabetes.

Restricting fetal growth can have irreversible consequences. The study of the different stages, from intrauterine life to adolescence, will make it possible to make progress in the prevention of this entity and in the treatment and prevention of the complications arising from it.

Collection of autoimmune and infectious diseases

The tuberculosi collection aims to discover and validate new diagnostic tools through the collection and use of samples throughout the treatment of patients. These patients need to be very well clinically characterized.

The collection of autoimmune diseases is intended to collect biological samples from patients with rheumatic diseases or immunodeficiencies. Having the samples of these patients allows them to participate in national and international studies that allow them to better understand them, consider new therapeutic approaches and ultimately improve the quality of life of the affected children.

Collection of maternal and fetal diseases

The main purpose of the Maternal-Fetal-Neonatal Collection is threefold: to identify biomarkers of different fetal and pregnancy-related pathologies, to improve their understanding of their pathophysiology, and to design new diagnostic, prognostic and therapeutic strategies. Research interests include preeclampsia, intrauterine growth retardation, preterm labour and delivery, pregnancies with complicated monochorial twins, fetal pregnancies with major malformations or genetic diseases, and low-risk pregnancies.
