Within the excellence in research framework of the Paediatric Cancer programme, we should highlight, firstly, our molecular diagnostic service that facilitates the prognosis and clinical follow-up of patients with paediatric tumours, thanks to the innovative molecular and cell biology techniques used. Secondly, we should mention our translational research which focuses on the identification of new diagnostic and prognostic markers and on new potential treatments for paediatric cancer.
To accomplish this, the point of departure of all groups participating in this programme is tumour analysis. We have developed a tumour bank which is a pivotal part of the group's work. A laboratory technician is specifically responsible for developing and maintaining this bank.
Our Paediatric Cancer Programme dates back to 2003, when a laboratory was set up to carry out clinical, translational and basic research on childhood tumours at the SJD Barcelona Children’s Hospital.
