The Clinical Research Unit of the Institut de Recerca Sant Joan de Déu aims to facilitate the work of researchers, laboratories, and companies that need to evaluate the effectiveness of treatments and products.

Presentation

The mission of the unit focuses on establishing a reference unit in clinical trials, facilitating and promoting quality research and innovation, and attracting research from both private and public sponsors.

The Clinical Research Unit is an initiative of the Fundació de Recerca Sant Joan de Déu, created in response to the need to integrate all activities derived from clinical research at the SJD Barcelona Children’s Hospital and the Parc Sanitari Sant Joan de Déu.

The integration of clinical research as a global and coordinated model, under the umbrella of a "single window," allows research groups to request advice and support for the conduct of non-commercial clinical trials. It also enables external trial sponsors to centralize all activities through this single point of contact.

We are the only pediatric unit in Spain that includes all specialties, and we are state leaders. This allows us to have a larger volume of patients and, consequently, trials, making our results highly representative.

Objectives of the Unit

• Support researchers, patients, and sponsors.
• Streamline administrative processes (negotiation of financial statements and contracts) to reduce the time required for processing and executing clinical trials.
• Ensure the execution of clinical trials, ensuring compliance with ethical requirements, current legislation, and Good Clinical Practices.
• Facilitate collaboration between researchers and other stakeholders, both internal and external, involved in a clinical trial: management of patient visits, coordination of the different departments involved in conducting tests (Laboratory, Imaging Diagnostics); and organization of feasibility visits, initiation visits, monitoring, etc.
• Provide advice and support to researchers at different stages of clinical trial development.
