Francisco Villar Cabeza

Francisco Villar has a degree in Psychology from the UB, a PhD in Psychology from the UAB, he specialized in Clinical Psychology at the Vall d'Hebrón University Hospital in Barcelona. He received specific training in family therapy at the Roberto Clemente Family Guidance Center in New York.

Since 2013 he has been the coordinator and promoter of the program for attention to suicidal behavior in minors at the Sant Joan de Déu Hospital in Barcelona.

He has promoted several lines of research on suicidal behavior in adolescence. Both at the level of reflection about treatments for its prevention (Picouto, Villar, Braqueais, 2015), in its classification and identification of profiles (Margarit-Soler et al., 2015; Villar et. al., 2017), in the identification of predictors of repetition of suicidal behavior (Villar et. al., 2018), in the in-depth study of personality in adolescents (villar et al., 2018) and in adults (Canal-Rivero et al. ., 2019), and in the study of gender differences (Villar et al., 2022).

He is directing doctoral theses that study suicidal behavior, one of them defended in July 2021 by Dr. Bernardo Sánchez and with an Excellent rating. He is currently supervising Xavier Alvarez's thesis.

He is a professor of the Master in Neuropsychiatry and Psychology of childhood and adolescence at the UAB. He is a trainer of Resident Internal Psychologists (PIR) and Resident Internal Doctors (MIR)

He has been part of the advisory group of experts in suicide prevention of "Pla director de salut mental i addiccions del departament de Salut de la Generalitat de Catalunya". He is part of the group of experts "l'Agència Catalana de la Joventut i del Direcció General de Joventut" which is part of the "Secretaria d'Infància - Adolescència i Joventut" and the Conselleria de Treball, Afers Socials i Famílies de la Generalitat de Catalunya". In the same way, he is part of the advisory committee of experts of the "Telephone for Suicide Prevention" of the Barcelona City Council.

He has coordinated the 2021 suicide prevention monograph of the mental health platform SOM 360º
