The Clinical Research Unit of the Institut de Recerca Sant Joan de Déu integrates all activities derived from clinical research at the SJD Barcelona Children's Hospital and the Parc Sanitari Sant Joan de Déu.

The integration of clinical research as a global, professionalized and coordinated model, under the umbrella of a "single window", allows its own research groups to request advice and support for the conduct of non-commercial clinical trials, and on the other hand, it makes it easier for external clinical trial promoters to centralize all activities through this single point of contact.

The mission of the unit focuses on consolidating a unit as a Global Partner of excellence in clinical trials, facilitating and promoting quality, rigorous and ethical research and innovation, and attracting research from both private and public sponsors.

The objectives of the Clinical Research Unit (CRU) of SJD focus on conducting rigorous and ethical scientific research that contributes to the advancement of medical knowledge and the improvement of clinical treatments to improve the quality of life of pediatric and adult patients of Sant Joan de Déu.

• Develop and execute clinical studies:

  Design, implement and supervise clinical trials that evaluate the efficacy and safety of new drugs, medical devices, therapies or procedures.

• Ensure the safety and well-being of participants:

  Ensure that all studies comply with ethical and regulatory standards, protecting the rights, safety and well-being of participants in a research.

• Promote medical innovation:

  Facilitate translational research, which connects basic knowledge with clinical applications, to develop new therapies, diagnostics or medical technologies.

• Train and empower researchers:

  Provide training and professional development opportunities for new researchers, ensuring they have the necessary skills to conduct high-quality clinical research.

• Collaborate with the scientific and medical community:

  Establish alliances with other research centers, universities, hospitals, and the pharmaceutical industry to foster collaboration and knowledge exchange.

• Comply with international regulations and standards:

  Ensure that all studies are conducted in accordance with national and international regulations, such as Good Clinical Practices (GCP) and FDA or EMA standards, among others.
