Dr. Carles Lerín recognized with the 2025 IFF Science Award for his pioneering research in child nutrition and health

Dr. Carles Lerín, head of the Pediatric Metabolic Diseases Research Group at the Institut de Recerca Sant Joan de Déu (IRSJD), has been awarded the 2025 IFF Science Award, a prestigious international recognition in the fields of nutrition, health, and biomedical research.

The award, granted by the global company IFF (International Flavors & Fragrances), acknowledges Dr. Lerín's career in research on human nutrition and health, particularly in the study of childhood and adolescent obesity, maternal and early-life nutrition, the role of the microbiome, and metabolic diseases.

His work focuses on exploring the links between dietary patterns during the early years of life and long-term metabolic outcomes, integrating microbiome science to understand how nutrition influences future health trajectories.

Dr. Lerín is also recognized for his advanced knowledge of the role of betaine in intestinal and metabolic health, highlighting its potential to support healthy growth and resilience during key developmental stages.
