The Spencer Foundation's Large Research Grants on Education Program supports rigorous, intellectually ambitious, and technically sound education research that contributes to the improvement of education broadly conceived, without being constrained by specific topics, disciplines, methods, or locations. The programme funds field-initiated research projects that examine pressing questions and opportunities in education, valuing methodological diversity and work that can have a lasting impact on educational scholarship, policy and practice. Projects may last up to 5 years and are expected to involve deep inquiry across diverse settings, potentially including classroom, workplace, community, or other learning environments

Requirements / Eligibility criteria:

• Proposals must be for academic research projects that study education.

• Activities other than research (e.g., programme evaluations, professional development, curriculum development, scholarships, capital projects) are not eligible.

• Principal Investigators (PIs) and Co-PIs must hold an earned doctorate in an academic discipline or professional field; graduate students may be part of teams but cannot serve as PI or Co-PI.

• The PI must be affiliated with a non-profit or public/governmental institution that can serve as the administering organisation; the Foundation does not award grants to individuals.

• Proposals are accepted from the U.S. and internationally; all submissions must be in English and budgets must be in U.S. Dollars.

• Projects may be up to 5 years in duration.

• PIs and Co-PIs may hold only one active Spencer research grant at a time and may submit only one research proposal/preproposal at a time (exceptions apply for certain other Spencer programmes).
