Objective

The Brain & Behavior Research Foundation is the largest philanthropic organization dedicated to research across all brain and behavior disorders (not disease specific).

Recipients of NARSAD Grants represent an extraordinary variety of disciplines.

Research has included (but is not limited to) studies in: genetics, neurobiology, molecular biology, imaging, neurochemical studies, neurophysiology, electrophysiology, clinical psychopharmacology, descriptive clinical studies, epidemiological research, treatment modalities, cognition studies, and outcome and prevention research

The NARSAD Young Investigator Grant provides support for the most promising young scientists conducting neurobiological research to enable them to either extend their research fellowship training or to begin careers as independent research faculty.

Basic and/or clinical investigators are supported, but research must be relevant to serious brain and behavior disorders such as schizophrenia, mood disorders, anxiety disorders or child and adolescent mental illnesses.

Requirements

Applicants must have a doctoral level degree (e.g., M.D. with [minimum PGY-IV] training, Ph.D., Psy.D., Pharm.D., etc.) and already be employed in research training, or be in a faculty research position.

The YI Grant is intended to support advanced post-doctoral fellows, instructors and assistant professors (or equivalent).

Applicants must have an on-site mentor or senior collaborator who is an established investigator in areas relevant to psychiatric disorders.

Applicants may only apply twice for an initial NARSAD Young Investigator Grant.

Funding

Up to 35.000 $ per year (maximum two years)

The Foundation does not pay institutional overhead.

- Mentor/Sponsor Letter (1 page for each mentor, max. 2)

- Mentor CV (4 pages or 8 pages if there are two mentors)

- References (1 page, optional)

- Collaborator letter (1 page, optional)

- Institutional Assurance Letter (1 page)
