Research group
Researcher Elena Esperanza graduated in Biology at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) in 2015. During the last year she interned at the Faculty of Biosciences of the UAB studying the methylation of the BIK gene in patients affected by a GMSI and genetic alterations in acute lymphoblastic leukemia, where he became familiar with laboratory work and molecular techniques. Later, during the 2015-2016 academic year, he completed a master's degree in Biological Anthropology with a specialization in human diversity and biomedical applications taught at the UAB and the University of Barcelona (UB). During that year he did the final master's thesis "Next generation sequencing versus high sensitivity flow cytometry for minimal residual disease ALL detection" at the Josep Carreras Leukemia Research Institute (Germans Trias i Pujol Hospital). This project allowed him to be trained in new molecular techniques such as Next Generation Sequencing.
He is currently completing his doctoral dissertation at the Sant Joan de Déu Hospital in the hematology laboratory integrated into the Developmental Tumors research group of the Sant Joan de Déu Barcelona Research Institute. In her research project she studies the epigenetic regulators (HDAC and miRNA) in a number of patients with pediatric acute leukemia. In addition, I complete my training by attending courses and congresses and is part of the European Haematology Association (EHA).
