Description:

The European Partnership for Pandemic Preparedness (BE READY Partnership / "BE READY NOW") launches its first Joint Transnational Call to fund transnational, interdisciplinary research projects that strengthen preparedness for emerging infectious disease threats, in line with a One Health approach.

This call supports collaborative projects focused on emerging and re-emerging viral pathogens with pandemic potential, including work on host-pathogen interactions, pathophysiology, and the development of innovative medical countermeasures (e.g., diagnostics, therapeutics, preventive strategies). Projects must focus on one or more viral families listed in the call text (including a "Pathogen X" approach).

The call follows a two-stage process (pre-proposal → full proposal) with central electronic submission via PT-Outline.

Objectives: Increase scientific understanding and evidence-based knowledge on viral pathogens with pandemic potential and host responses, to improve the capacity to anticipate, prevent and respond to infectious health threats

Requirements

(General rules; national/regional rules also apply and may add constraints-see Annex A in the Call Text.)

  • Consortium composition: minimum 3 partners from 3 different participating countries (with at least 2 EU Member States or Associated Countries); maximum 6 partners (including up to 1 external self-funded partner). If including an under-represented country or a company, the maximum can increase to 7 partners.

  • External partner: allowed (max 1) from a non-participating country only with secured own funding, with a signed statement; external partner budget must be included and must not exceed 20% of the requested total transnational budget; external partners cannot coordinate.

  • Coordinator limits: coordinator cannot change between stages; can coordinate only 1 proposal; coordinators may be partner in max 1 other proposal.

  • Partner limits: partners cannot be involved in more than 2 proposals submitted to this call.

  • Project duration: up to 36 months.

  • Double funding not allowed.

  • Scope limitations (important): the call text specifies excluded areas including clinical studies and other excluded SRIA action points (see call text).
