Introduction:
The EMDR Research Foundation is a U.S.-based organization that supports scientific research on Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy.

General description:
The Foundation offers several levels of grants, including awards of up to USD 40,000 for postdoctoral researchers, university faculty, or clinicians conducting EMDR-related research. A one-time special grant of up to USD 100,000 is also available for projects focused on children and EMDR.
Projects may run for up to two years. Grantees must submit an interim report after one year and a final report at project completion.
The grant covers direct research costs such as instruments, research assistants, software, and transcription, but does not cover indirect costs, equipment, or investigator salary/time.

Objectives:
The Foundation prioritizes research that:

  • Advances evidence for EMDR in established clinical domains (e.g., anxiety, depression, PTSD, phantom limb pain, recovery after cardiac events or cancer).

  • Addresses the global burden of trauma through EMDR applications in disaster response or early intervention protocols.

  • Builds clinical evidence in underexplored areas such as addictions, eating disorders, dissociative disorders, somatic and medical comorbidities, and suicide prevention.

  • USD 100,000 special grant for research with children and EMDR: May 1, 2025
