Mireya Fernández Chimeno


Mireya Fernández Chimeno received the M. Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from the Technical University of Catalunya (UPC BarcelonaTech), Spain, in 1990 and 1996, respectively.

Since 1998 she has been a Full Professor at the UPC's Department of Electronic Engineering. He belongs to the Biomedical and Electronic Instrumentation Group, which carries out his research. It also belongs to GCEM, the UPC's Electromagnetic Compatibility Group is responsible for quality, and to CREB, the UPC's Center for Biomedical Engineering Research, the two centers are part of the TECNIO network of the Generalitat of Catalonia. Mireia is also a member of the advisory council of Health and Sport Lab, a spin-off organized by the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) and the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC), of which she is a founding partner with a 5% stake.

His fields of research interest are:

(1) The design and development of biomedical instrumentation for medical and non-medical environments, especially focused on the latter aspect in the automotive field, where it has collaborated since 2008 with the FICOSA business group in the development of biomedical systems for the detection of drowsiness in drivers and for the evaluation of their state of attention. This collaboration has resulted in four international patents.

(2) The design of instrumentation for electromagnetic compatibility measurements, focused on the development of near field probes and the evaluation of uncertainty of measurement methods.

She was visiting researcher at the Health Sciences Department at the University of York (2003),where join the Cochrane Wounds Group. Mireya was Associate Dean (Academic Laboratories) at the Telecommunication Engineering School (ETSETB), (1996-2000). She is the co-author of more than 100 scientific and academic publications (articles, conference papers and books) and 7 patents. He is a member of the organizing committee of the EMC Europe 2006 Barcelona, ​​and of the EMC Europe 2019 Barcelona, ​​Program Chair of Biodevices 2013, member of the Biodevices / Biostec program committee since 2013 and of Phycis December 2017.
