Condolences on the death of Dr. Raul Benítez
From the Institut de Recerca Sant Joan de Déu (IRSJD) we would like to express our deepest condolences for the sad loss of Dr. Raul Benítez, a committed researcher and much-loved colleague, who has left us prematurely.
Dr. Benítez received his PhD in Physical Sciences in 2005 and continued his scientific career with a postdoctoral stay at the University of California, focusing his research on the analysis of physiological data. Since 2009, he has been an associate professor at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia and coordinated the Biomedical Image Analysis group of the Center for Research in Biomedical Engineering (CREB), from where he led the application of artificial intelligence techniques for the extraction of biomarkers from medical images.
Within the framework of the IRSJD, Dr. Benítez played a prominent role as coordinator of several research projects both nationally and European-wide and contributed significantly to scientific progress with the publication of 26 articles in international journals -13 of them in high-impact publications- and the authorship of two patents.
Beyond his unquestionable talent as a researcher, those of us who were lucky enough to work alongside him will remember him as a generous, kind person who was always willing to help, with a friendly smile and a positive attitude that he commanded.
With hearts full of sadness, we extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, colleagues and to all the people who, like us, had the honor of knowing and loving him. His scientific and human legacy will always remain with us.

With hearts full of sadness, we extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, colleagues and to all the people who, like us, had the honor of knowing and loving him.
