Introduction The Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) plans to issue this funding announcement to support patient-centered comparative clinical effectiveness research (CER).
-
General description: PCORI seeks well-designed, methodologically robust retrospective observational CER studies that leverage established, ready-to-use data sources (e.g., PCORnet) to generate timely, impactful, patient-centered evidence for healthcare decision making. Studies should compare existing interventions that pose current decisional dilemmas and have robust efficacy evidence or are in widespread use. Both clinical interventions (e.g., medications, diagnostic tests, procedures) and delivery-system interventions (e.g., workforce, technologies, service delivery designs) are within scope. This is a two-stage process (LOI followed by full application).
-
Objectives: To produce timely, impactful, and patient-centered results that inform healthcare decisions and improve health outcomes through retrospective observational CER using existing data sources.
-
Thematic areas: Applications must address at least one PCORI-approved Topic Theme: cancer; pain; substance use; maternal morbidity and mortality; intellectual and developmental disabilities; sensory health; metabolic and endocrine health; mental and behavioral health; or rare diseases.
