The mission of the unit is to consolidate a benchmark unit for clinical trials, facilitating and promoting quality research and innovation, and attracting research from both private and public promoters. The Clinical Trials Unit (UAC) is an initiative of the SJD Research Foundation that is created in response to the need to integrate all the activities derived from clinical research into the SJD Barcelona Children's Hospital and the Parc Sanitari Sant Joan de Déu.

The integration of clinical research as a global and coordinated model, under the umbrella of a "single window" allows its own research groups to ask for advice and support in performing non-commercial clinical trials and, on the other hand, facilitates to external clinical trial promoters centralize all activities through this single point of contact.

• Support researchers, patients and promoters
• Streamline administrative procedures (negotiation of economic reports and contracts) to reduce the time needed to process and execute clinical trials.
• Guarantee the execution of clinical trials, ensuring compliance with ethical requirements, current legislation and good clinical practices.
• Facilitate collaboration between researchers and other stakeholders, internal and external, participating in a clinical trial: Management of patient visits, coordination of the different departments involved in conducting tests (Laboratory, Diagnosis by image); and organization of viability visits, opening visits, monitoring, etc.
• Provide counselling and support to researchers at different stages of clinical trial development.
